Reliable biomass pumping at a biogas plant in the Philippines

At Polomolok Biogas Plant on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines, an LSM 125 peristaltic hose pump plays an important role in the plant’s biomass handling process.

The biogas plant processes by-products from DOLE, one of the world’s largest and best-known producers and suppliers of fresh fruit and vegetables. At Polomolok Biogas Plant, discarded pineapples and substrate are converted into biogas. The methane produced is supplied back to the factory and used as an energy source in production, while the CO₂ is captured and further processed for industrial applications.

Before the biomass is pumped to the plant’s three bioreactors, the substrate is mixed with liquid in a mixing tank. This places high demands on the pumping solution, as the medium is both fibrous and viscous and contains solid particles.

To ensure a stable and efficient process, two existing pumps were replaced by a single LSM 125 peristaltic hose pump. The new solution provides more reliable transport of the biomass while also reducing the complexity of the plant.

LSM’s peristaltic hose pumps are designed for demanding media where high operational reliability, gentle pumping and low maintenance costs are essential for stable production.
